The Allman Brothers are gearing up for another magical run of tour dates at The Beacon Theater and Derek Trucks talks about why it’s so special |
Seems like Deja Vu all over again as The Allman Brothers Band is gearing up for their annual run of tour dates at The Beacon Theater in New York City. Although originally from Macon, Georgia it’s no secret New York has officially become the band’s hometown and The Beacon Theater has undoubtedly become their home venue. 2009 will see the band perform 15 shows throughout the month of March beginning March 9th and extending until March 28th. The Allman Brothers are notorious for bringing their A game to the Beacon Theater and fans are usually treated to not only multiple guests but new material as well and 2009 promises to be no different. |
Artisan News caught up with guitarist Derek Trucks to get his thoughts on The Beacon Theater and why it’s so special to The Allman Brothers. |
“Originally it was The Fillmore East, but that’s no longer there and I think The Beacon has taken on that roll for the band. It’s really like the hometown of the group now. New York City has turned into that and it kind of has been for a long time. You know The Beacon, there’s something about that setting. Two, three thousand people all diehard fans and you’re there every night, nine ten shows in a run. I think everyone in the band really looks forward to that. It’s kind of a chance to start off the year with the group and showcase the new tunes. It’s just turned into something, it’s a pilgrimage for a lot of people. They come every year man from far and wide. It’s pretty amazing. My family from Jacksonville, Florida goes up every year. My grandfather, my dad, brothers and sisters. There’s a lot of people that look forward to that run.” |
After The Allman Brothers Beacon run concludes, they will have one more tour date announced as of press time, which will be May 16th at The Gorge in George, Washington This will clearly be a very special evening as not only does it kick off the summer concert season at The Gorge, but The Allman Brothers will be performing with The Dead and The Doobie Brothers. |
