ALL TIME LOW IS BLINK APPROVED
Alex Gaskarth said that the musical comparisons to Blink-182 should be shelved, however live comparisons could be truthful. |
All Time Low has been compared to Blink-182, and although they’re huge fans of the band, they don’t really see the resemblance. Vocalist Alex Gaskarth said that they do have fun on stage, which he thinks is where people start making the comparisons. |
He said that, musically, they sound nothing like Blink, but their immature antics he admits can draw comparisons. |
“It’s weird because we obviously do take a lot of influence from that band, however I never really thought of our sound as being anything like Blink. I don’t think we sound a thing like Blink. I definitely think our attitudes on stage definitely reflect the kind of live show that they personified. And we’ve gotten all kinds of s–t for it. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that, but… We’ve gone under fire for all sorts of things like we kind of ripped them off. We kind of look at it as a way to… People have a lot of things to worry about in life, so why not give people an hour when they can just forget about all of that and listen to guys make jokes about weiners and stuff like that. It all works out.” |
He said that the approval of Tom Delonge and Mark Hoppus helps ease the criticisms. |
“I think that in a sense that even now that Mark and Tom, I don’t know so much about Travis, they both know our band and they’ve both seen our band and to kind of have their blessing for them both to have said, ‘You guys are doing it right. It’s a good thing.’ It kind of reaffirms that I don’t really mind so much if people have a problem with the way you talk onstage. It’s coming from the people who did it first, if they’re saying, ‘Go ahead,’ then screw it. Why not?” |
All Time Low was named Alternative Press’s Band Of 2008, and they’ll grace the cover of the February edition of the magazine. |
