AEROSMITH SINGER TYLER SUPPORTS REHAB, THEN ENTERS REHAB
Lead vocalist Steven Tyler of Aerosmith has entered rehab and the band will take a short break from recording their final album for Sony |
Aerosmith’s lead vocalist, Steven Tyler, reportedly has checked himself into the Las Encinas Rehabilitation Hospital in Pasadena, Calif. Las Encinas is the same hospital featured on VH1’s Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Steven Tyler and lead guitarist Joe Perry, once were dubbed the ‘Toxic Twins’ for their sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll decadent lifestyle since the band’s inception in the early 1970s. But over two decades Steven Tyler has maintained his sobriety and even helped many of his own friends overcome their addictions and demons as well. In early May of 2008, Steven Tyler performed with Camp Freddy at The MusiCares MAP Benefit which provides assistance and relief for addicts who can’t afford the high cost of rehab. |
We caught up with Tyler on the red carpt at the MAP Benefit to get his thoughs on why he was proud to take part in assisting recovering addicts. |
“Because there’s a lot of people who aren’t as rich as I am and can’t afford a rehab. Certain people that I know well I’ll give them my phone number and tell them if you got any problems at all, just give me a call and I’ll stop what I’m doing, where ever I’m doing, because I remember when I needed it myself.” 19 |
Aerosmith are currently in the recording studio working on their final album under their contract with Sony and it will be bands first studio album since 2004’s ‘Honkin’ on Bobo.’ Tyler also gave us an update on where the band is in the recording stage and if he could compare it to anything the band has done in the past. |
“We’re recording our last album with Sony and that’s that. We’re half way through. Oh yeah, definitely like the old stuff.” |
Having sold 150 million albums worldwide, Aerosmith have also collected five American Music Awards, four Grammy Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, two People’s Choice Awards, sixteen Boston Music Awards, and numerous other awards and honors in their illustrious career. Aerosmith were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. No release date has been announced but the band hopes to have the album out in 2009. |
