ADAM SANDLER REELS IN THE PAIN
Adam Sandler stars in Reign Over Me as a man who is still reeling from the pain of losing his family in the attacks on September 11th. When he runs into his old college roommate played by Don Cheadle, their rekindled friendship appears to be what’s needed to help him heal. |
Adam was very hesitant about taking on the heavy subject matter because crying on cue is not a Sandler trait on or off the camera but he wanted to challenge himself. Adam talks about how his character avoided dealing with the pain. |
“I think basically trying to run away constantly and not ever have something that might trigger it, a thought that he can’t deal with. And so he is trying to have fun, he is acting like an eighth grader on occasion and old Johnson allows him to do that.” |
Adam talks about the most painful scene in the film that resonated for him and the character. |
“You know what’s a really heavy part of the movie that when I read it, it brought the most pain, when I’m telling you about the morning of the tragedy that I wasn’t cool to my wife. I snapped on her and that’s the huge regret that everybody, that some people I’m sure have, and some people could face. It’s something that when you see the movie you walk out going, ‘let me just clear everything up with everybody.’ I don’t want to have that in the back of my mind, why did I snap and now I could never get that back.” |
Adam sat in on grief counseling sessions for loved ones of September 11th victims with post traumatic stress disorder and found that people who were going through this wanted to get it out in the public more so the film Reign Over Me may do just that. |
