ACTORS SHARE IN EMILIO’S PASSION FOR BOBBY

Emilio Estevez was only six years old when Bobby Kennedy was assassinated but will never forget hearing his father’s sadness in trying to get the details over long distance telephone conversations. Martin Sheen who stars in his son’s homage to the late senator says his death affected him deeply.

Demi Moore who was once engaged to marry Emilio back in the brat pack days plays his drunken wife in the film sabotaging her once successful singing career. The two have remained friends through the years and she wanted to share in his vision.

“Emilio had an interest and connection to Bobby Kennedy since his childhood. What I didn’t realize was how deeply Bobby Kennedy affected him nor how much he was affected by Bobby’s death. But the spirit lived within him. He knew as a child something horrible had happened and nothing would ever be the same again.”rn

Elijah Wood who plays a Vietnam draftee saved by marrying Lindsay Lohan met with Emilio at a Santa Monica hotel. Elijah and the rest of the cast who command huge salaries waved their exorbitant fees because they were taken by Emilio’s passion.

“He’s an incredibly generous director. I mean he is not precious about his own words. He has an ability to give you room as an actor to be creative, to try different things, even working with very limited funds and thereby limited time. And yet hold the strength of his vision keeping everybody kind of within under these wings of carrying out this story.”

“And I was so taken by a lot of things. I was taken by his humanity and I think his sensitivity as well as his passion for this story he was trying to tell. I mean obviously all the actors that signed on signed on because they were passionate about the project and passionate about Emilio’s vision. There certainly wasn’t any money. It was certainly a passion project for everyone so everyone who did come onto set was there for the right reasons.”rn
