CHRIS CORNELL TO CARRY ON NOT AS A SLAVE
Yahoo music has taken a shot at Chris Cornell saying he “Jumped The Shark” meaning he wasn’t great for his work with Audioslave, and Chris responds. |
Chris Cornell has released his second solo album titled ‘Carry On’ and the album marks Cornells return to being a solo artist after 6 years and 3 albums with the Rock super group Audioslave. Cornell released his first solo album ‘Morning Euphoria’ in 1999 and after being the lead vocalist for the incredibly successful Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog, Cornell is back doing things musically and lyrically that he wasn’t able to do in any of his previous bands. |
We caught up with Chris Cornell to discuss getting the opportunity to be a solo artist once again. |
“Every record that I’ve made, whether it was that band (Audioslave) or any other band or any other thing I’ve done has always been equally important to me. So making a solo record I feel like it’s just making another record that I’m doing. The circumstances surrounding it are different and there’s less co-writing on it, but I’ve always wrote a lot on whatever record it was. I wrote a lot of music, I wrote all the lyrics usually, with the exception of here or there, so I feel it’s more like my thirteenth record and the circumstances are a little different. Things change lyrically in terms of the focus, but I never forgot when I was writing for a band album, who was in the band when I’m writing lyrics because they have to be able to get behind it. It has to resonate to each guy on the stage some how. It’s a little bit more free form you know. There’s certain things musically and lyrically that I’m going to do alone that I definitel |
It’s no secret that Cornell put his solo career on hold while he joined Audioslave and helped them to became a worldwide success, but when the band finished their last album ‘Revelations,’ Cornell immediately got to work recording his solo album. |
“Yeah, I didn’t really know what Audioslave was going to be, none of us did until we got into a room. And it was really kind of this idea of a collaboration that could become a band and that band would have whatever life it had. But no one could predict the life expectancy, but once we got in a room we clicked really quickly and started writing songs really quickly and we had this kind of spark that ignited that happens some times in a different combination of dudes in a band get together and suddenly you’re writing a lot of songs and it’s really fresh. We had that for sure. You know I didn’t think of it in terms of length of time that I thought was something that could go on for a really long time or not. We made three records and that’s a lot more than a lot of people expected. It was for the right reasons and I think all three were great.” |
But was it an easy decision parting ways with guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk in Audioslave, when they decided to reunite with Zack de la Rocha to reform Rage Against the Machine? |
After performing a few dates in Europe with Aerosmith for June, Chris Cornell will hit the road in support of ‘Carry On’ with a US Tour that starts July 10th at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco and will extend until July 31st at The Beacon Theater in New York. |
