BLONDIE SINGER DEBORAH HARRY SUPPORTS NECESSARY EVIL
Rock N Roll Hall of Fame vocalist, Deborah Harry, who catapulted Blondie to the forefront of the music scene in the 70’s is back with her first solo album in fourteen years with the release of ‘A Necessary Evil.’ The album, which shows Harry’s diverse musical background and tastes also allows her to step away from Blondie and group decision making and take on all the decisions in the recording process being a solo artist once again. |
We caught up with Deborah Harry, just before the release of the ‘A Necessary Evil’ to get her thoughts on putting out a solo album and making all the decisions. |
“I’m usually involved in everything that goes on, you know on the other albums but this time I really had to make a lot of the decisions. Much more so than in Blondie, which is a group effort. So everybody sort of puts in their two cents. This time I had all the nickels.” |
Deborah, who is certainly not new to making albums and writing hit songs, having led Blondie to be the only U.S. artist in history to have #1 singles in the U.K. in three consecutive decades in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, also talked about recording most of the songs in one night. |
“It started out as a bunch of demos and then it sort of evolved after I was half way through with most of the material and after writing half the material, we just decided to put it out as a solo CD. So, initially I had the really great luxury of working at a pace that I created myself. I was touring a lot so when I came off the road I would call up and say ‘I have an idea. Do you have any time?’ Then we would get together and do a track and most of the tracks were done in a single night.” |
We also talked with Deborah about songwriting and recording with fellow member of Blondie, guitarist Chris Stein, who performs on a ‘Necessary Evil.’Deborah |
“Wonderful. I love Chris and I love working with Chris and I love his sound. I’ve always described his style as loose but tight. He just has this great feel and I was really happy to have a couple of his pieces on my CD.” |
Deborah Harry’s ‘A Necessary Evil’ hits the streets in the U.S. October 9th and the video for the first single, ‘Two Times Blue’ is already out. The Soul Seekerz mix of Harry’s new single ‘Two Times Blue’ debuted at #45 on the Billboard US Club Chart and you can look for Deborah to announce a run of tour dates in support of ‘A Necessary Evil’ soon. |
