WARREN HAYNES KEEPING BUSY WITH NUMEROUS PROJECTS AHEAD
Warren Haynes, lead guitarist for Gov’t Mule and The Allman Brothers, always likes to stay busy performing hundreds of shows per year, along with numerous recording projects. Although Warren certainly deserves a much needed break, Haynes has plans in the future of not only recording a solo album and another Gov’t Mule album, but there’s also talk about recording a new Allman Brothers album. After the last Allman Brothers album ‘Hittin the Note’ earned the band a Grammy Nomination for Best Rock Instrumental song, it was evident Warren Haynes and Gregg Allman were truly hitting their song writing groove together, collaborating at full strength and the new songs clearly rejuvenated the entire band in the studio as well. |
We caught up with Warren Haynes to discuss his thoughts about songs writing together with Gregg Allman again and the possibilities of recording a new Allman Brothers album. |
“Gregg and I have been writing a little bit. There are some new songs in The Allman Brothers camp. There’s talk about possibly making another record, but not immediately. We’re not ready yet, but I think everybody would like to make one. Everybody had a blast making the last one. So it’d be nice to see another one.” |
So while The Allman Brothers aren’t quite ready to record their next album, what projects does Warren see for himself in the near future? |
“Well, I would like to do a solo record at some point. I’d like to do another Mule record, some of which has already been done. It’s hard to say. David Hidalgo from Los Lobos and I have been talking about doing something together if the schedules permit. But I’m always open to interesting things.” |
So with so many different projects on his plate, does Warren find there’s not enough time to bounce between the numerous options in front of him? |
“You know people ask me a lot if it’s hard bouncing from one project to another. A, I think it helps me stay vitalized and energized and it keeps fresh energy coming from all different directions and B, music is what I love the most in the world so I have the best job on the planet. So, I can’t complain. Work to me is one of my favorite things to do.” |
Warren Haynes will be performing solo and with The Allman Brothers Band at Farm Aid on Randalls Island in New York on September 9th. Also scheduled to appear will be Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, Gregg Allman, Counting Crows, Matisyahu, Guster and The Derek Trucks Band. Warren Haynes will then hit the road with Gov’t Mule for their Mighty High Tour with Grace Potter and The Nocturnals with dates extending until November 3rd in St. Louis, Missouri. |
