THE UNDERWATER, CLIMBING THE CHARTS IN EUROPE
With the state of radio and big label bands making headlines again with recent payola scandals, sometimes newer bands need to forge a strong fan base over in Europe before coming back to take over America. That just might be the case for The Underwater, who having already had 2 songs at the # 1 spot in the past on Alternative Addiction’s Unsigned top 10 chart are already seeing another single ‘Losing Me’ getting some attention as well. The Underwater are even charting right now in Europe, yet the band finds itself struggling to get airplay in the states. We caught up with Dan Thomas and Brandon Deroche of The Underwater to find out their thoughts on their European fan base and the state |
The Underwater recently released the EP “Lungs” and the band will begin an extensive tour with Epic artist’s Quietdrive starting August 30th at the Bottleneck in Lawrence, Kansas and ending October 1st at the Silo in Reading, Pa. The Underwater are also another band utilizing My Space, as not only is their website listed at www.myspace.com/theunderwater, but the band also found their drummer off my space as well. Check the bands website for future updates in what will undoubtedly be a busy end of the year for the band. |
“Out there too the radio isn’t necessarily controlled by two or three separate sources so in that sense all the stations will play a wide variety of stuff over the past thirty years. So the people in turn are more receptive to anything that appeals to them.” Brandon went on to add “We charted on some radio stations over there but we struggle sometimes to get airplay in our hometown. In Austria we where in the top ten right next to Coldplay and bands like that. It’s really strange.” |
