BOOTSY COLLINS HAPPY TO GET PEPPERS, SNOOP, WYLCEF, 311 JAMMING
AmsterJam took place at Randalls Island in New York City last weekend (August 20) and one man was responsible for the mash-ups to go smoothly. Bootsy Collins was named host and “curator” of the concert, and he also jammed with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Snoop Dogg for their mash-up. |
The Parliament Funkadelic and James Brown bassist was responsible for making sure the artists felt comfortable around each other and responsible for setting the tone for the day. Collins was the bridge to the days’ rhythmic rock and the hip hop, and he told us he’s glad to see the two interact in a fun way. |
“It really makes you feel good. It makes you feel good when you look out and you see people having a good time and just loving the music and loving where they’re at at the moment. It makes you feel good, because it’s so hard today to have real fun with all kind of people, all kind of different people. I think, musically speaking, the music brings that.” |
Collins was also asked about the importance of bridging the gap between the two styles. |
“It’s very important, I think. That’s why I wanted to be involved in the Heineken, Michael Lang vision because it brings fun back to the concert. I wanted to be involved in that. It was an opportunity for me that I just couldn’t throw away.” |
AmsterJam featured mash-ups between Red Hot Chili Peppers and Snoop Dogg, 311 and Wyclef Jean, and Garbage and Peaches among others. |
