GREEN DAY LEADS ROCK AT 2005 VMAS
Green Day opened the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards in Miami with “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams,” but for the Bay City punksters it was anything but. The video for the tune captured the coveted Video Of The Year, as part of the band’s whopping 7 awards that were meted out to both the band and its technical video help. |
The band came up to accept their Video Of The Year award, which was the last on given out in the night, and frontman Billie Joe Armstrong urged the crowd to follow their heart.< |
“We’ve been a band around now for the last 16 years. We toured in a van, we’ve done everything ourselves up until this point so thank you very much. Thanks a lot to everyone that played Live 8 this year, thank you very much…and remember, do the things you f–king believe in. This is what it’s all about.” |
Green Day also took home the awards for Best Rock Video and Best Group Video, which officially makes Green Day’s latest album, American Idiot, their biggest ever. |
Other rock artist who took home awards included the Killers and Fall Out Boy, who said their MTV2 win should have gone to My Chemical Romance. |
