SLIPKNOT, TRIVIUM, MACHINEHEAD HELP CELEBRATE ROADRUNNER 25TH ANNIVERSARY
Roadrunner Records has put together a ground breaking record marking the label’s 25th Anniversary. Boasting 56 artists from 45 of Roadrunners past and present bands, The All Star Sessions will contain original tracks that are collaborations between numerous Roadrunner stars. Four central musicians were originally chosen to produce and write the songs. These four ‘Team Captains,’ which include Joey Jordison (Slipknot), Dino Cazares (ex-Fear Factory), Robert Flynn (Machine Head) and Matt Heafy (Trivium) play on the songs they have written and have also essembled a unique team of artists on each track. The bands represented on this stunning collection of music includes Chimaira, Coal Chambe |
The bands represented on this stunning collection of music includes Chimaira, Coal Chamber, Devil Driver, Fear Factory, Ill Nino, Killswith Engage, King Diamond, Machine Head, Misfits, Opeth, Sepultura, Slipknot, Soulfly, Trivium, Type O Negative and Visions of Disorder, to name just a few. We caught up with Dino, Matt and Robert to talk about this amazing achievement and getting everybody together in the studio, which could be such a daunting task. |
“While I was in the studio recording, I decided to call up a bunch of my friends that were around town.” stated Dino Cazares “So I called up Nadja from Coal Chamber, Mikey from Spineshank, Roy from Soulfly, Dave McClain from Machine Head, Marcelo from Soulfly, Dez from Coal Chamber, Matt Heafy the youngin’, the boy, the kid and Christian from Ill Nino and Mark Hunter from Chiamara and we went in and did all these tracks and it came out killer. It was the last two weeks of the European UK Roadrage tour and Monte called me up and was like ‘We don’t have a team captain, we need you to write some songs. How do you feel about that? We have to go into the studio and record in about two weeks. |
Robert Flynn of Machine Head went on to discuss why he thought a project this big with so many of todays biggest metal bands being represented could only take place on Roadrunner Records. |
“I think it’s incredible. I think the one thing out of all of this that’s pretty unique and makes it a lot more special than maybe something else is I really couldn’t see this happening on another label. I couldn’t see this happening on an Interscope or Epic, you know. I think this is primarily something that could only happen in the metal and hardcore scenes to have this type of cross pollination of everything. I think it’s a great concept and I know for me to work along some of the people that I looked up to before I was even signed to Roadrunner, to have them singing on a song or something like that it’s been amazing.” |
In the end an astounding 56 musicians from 44 different bands were utilized on this ground breaking compilation album, which is due to hit the streets October 11th, an amazing feat and sign of the respect each player had for each other and for the label. As for the four team captains, Joey Jordison of Slipknot is currently on tour in support of Subliminal Verses and the band will be releasing their first live album November 1st. Robert Flynn and Machine Head will see their much anticipated DVD ‘Elegies’ released October 11th as well. The material on the DVD was recorded at the sold out Brixton Academy in London and spans the bands entire catalog. Matthew Heafy of Trivium, having been nam |
Dino Cazares, formerly of Fear Factory, has just wrapped up the US leg of a tour with his spanish language Mexican metal group, Asesino, which also features Tony Campos of Static x. Asesino will next head to Europe to tour in support of Static X and Ill Nino starting in Mid October. |
