AUDIOSLAVE CUBA DVD TO BE RELEASED
Audioslave will be releasing a DVD of their trip and performance to Cuba. The band traveled to the Fidel Castro-ruled country in May becoming the first U.S. band to perform there. The collection will hit stores October 11, and it comes in a single disc and double disc version, the latter containing an audio CD from the band’s Live At AOL session. |
Audioslave features Chris Cornell formerly of Soundgarden and Tom Morello, Brad Wilk and Tim C. formerly of Rage Against The Machine. The DVD Live In Cuba is the first time the band’s performances of songs by Rage Against The Machine and Soundgarden have been captured for a video release. Morello talked about the Cuban experience. |
“Yeah, it was an honor to be the first American rock band to ever play a show in Cuba. We don’t take that for granted. It was unbelievable. There was a lot of bureaucratic wrangling between the US Treasury Department and The Cuban Ministry of Culture to get us to be able to play over there. But it all got ironed out and it really was unbelievable, to be able to play in front of 70,000 fans, outdoors along the Caribbean, and to be the first American band to do it was unbelievable. It was one of the greatest highlights of our musical career, if not the greatest one.” |
Audioslave’s visit and performance was organized by the U.S. Treasury Department and the Instituto Cubano de la Musica. The concert ironically took place in a plaza built five years ago as a place for mass protest against the U.S. government. |
