LITTLE BROTHERS GIVES IT UP TO DE LA SOUL AND TRIBE

North Carolina-based rap trio, Little Brother, released their major label debut, The Minstrel Show, last month. The set debuted at Number 56 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and this week sits at Number 122. For a group of college buddies who released their debut independently in 2003, the group has come a long way.

Recently group member Big Pooh shared some of the group’s early influences. Pooh said,

“I mean as far as hip-hop, I mean it’s evident we kind of you know tailor the way we create songs, song structure and everything about us but um, like De La, Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock and CL, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, you know what I’m sayin’, the greats of you know hip-hop, the so-called greats of hip-hop, you know what I’m sayin’? We draw from them to some of the contemporaries like T.I., Jay-Z of course. You know I mean the list could go on forever, you know what I’m sayin’?”
