NAS MAKES THE JUMP TO DEF JAM
Wu-Tang Clan and Redman partner Method Man talks the Rapstar video game and the hip-hop career game in 2010. |
Nas has finally left the Sony Music Group. Def Jam Records brokered a deal with Sony that will allow the two companies to split the profits or the losses from the rapper’s next two albums. The New York Times reports that Sony will retain the rights to release a greatest-hits set and that Def Jam will have an option for two more albums. |
The deal comes just three months after Nas and Def Jam resident Jay-Z ended their long-standing beef. Nas is expected to earn $3 million, which includes a recording budget for each of the first two albums. |
Nas’s last release was 2004’s Street’s Disciple. |
Def Jam Records’ roster currently includes: Ghostface Killah, Young Jeezy, Slick Rick, Memphis Bleek, Redman, Method Man, Jay-Z, LL Cool J, The Roots, and others. |
