LIL FLIP GUILTY
T.I. is set to enter into an Arkansas prison after the Memorial Day weekend, and he said that incarceration will have no effect on his musical legacy. |
Rapper Lil’ Flip and Sony Music Entertainment were found guilty of willful copyright infringement in a Houston Federal Court. |
Lil’ Flip –real name Wesley Eric Weston, Sony Music Entertainment, Columbia Records, Loud Records, Lucky Publishing, Hobbs Publishing, and his manager Estelle Douglass Hobbs were ordered to pay $150,000 to Tommy L. Granville, a Shreveport, LA producer. |
In the suit, Granville claims that he wrote melody for the song “Texas Boyz” off of Flip’s major label debut “Underground Legend.” |
“We’ve very pleased that the jury agreed with our contention that Tommy Granville’s music was illegally used,” said Scott Hemingway, Granville’ attorney. “ Sony has been one of the biggest proponents of copyright protection and hopefully, they will now follow their own statements and honor the copyrights of others.” |
Sony was fined $18,000 for withholding documents to the court. |
