COLDPLAY PLAYS TO COLD GRAMMY REHEARSALS
(VIDEO) Coldplay rehearsed at the Staples Center for their Grammy Awards performance on Wednesday. The band talked about playing to cut-outs, celebrities and fans….here! |
Coldplay rehearsed on Day 3 of preparation for the 48th Annual Grammy Awards. The band appeared once before with a string section, but this time they’ll stay with their original configuration. The band is also nominated for three awards. |
The Grammys are voted on by music industry professionals, and Chris Martin and company are playing in front of their peers, or are they. The band actually rehearsed in front of cardboard cut-outs of the stars that were place-holders for the actual seat assignments for the show. Will Champion and Martin talked about the diference between performing in front of peers, cut-outs, and their fans. |
[Chris] “That’s a good question. [Will] “There’s not actually any peers in the rehearsal room. It’s just cardboard cut-outs of of peers. That’s really easy.” [Chris] “It’s easy to play to cardboard cut-outs.” [Will] “When the real people are there at the concert it’s a little more intimidating. Especially when there’s like, I think, each of our local, each of our heroes in the audience. I looked at the cardboard cut outs and when they’re actually there it’s going to be terrifying. You have all of U2, Dave Grohls from Foo Fighters…. [Chris] “Paul McCartney from the Beatles…” [Will] “…all these incredible musicians that have been so important to us in our heritage.” |
Coldplay has four Grammy Awards including the 2003 trophy for Record Of The Year for “Clocks.” The others include Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for “In My Place,” and Best Alternative Music Album awards for A Rush Of Blood To The Head and Parachuttes. |
