BLONDIE INDUCTED INTO ROCK HALL BY SHIRLEY MANSON
(VIDEO) Shirley Manson of Garbage inducted Blondie into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but not without some controversy. See it, here!! |
Blondie represented the new wave of punk at the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame and remained punk’s lone representatives with the Sex Pistols not showing up. They were ushered into the hall on Monday night in their hometown of New York City by Garbage singer Shirley Manson, who called Debbie Harry the most beautiful woman on earth. |
She also noted that Harry became the standard bearer by which most women in the industry are measured to. |
“Blondie will also enter the Hall Of Fame as one of the coolest, most glamorous, mostylish bands in the history of Rock and Roll, which leads me of course to pause at the feet of Debbie Harry. Debbie Harry, the most beautiful girl in any room in any city on any planet.” |
The ceremony wasn’t without drama. Former members Frankie Infante and Nigel Harrison were left out of the performance, and they made their disappointment known during the ceremony. |
[Infante] “I’d like to play, but… Debbiie is that allowed? No? We’d like to play with you guys. Not tonight? Pretty please, Debbie. I love you.” [Harry] “Can’t you see my band is up there?” [Infante] “Oh, your band. I thought Blondie was being inducted tonight?” [Harrison] “It’s messed up for us. We want to play. Obviously we were part of it. We’ve been led to believe that we weren’t a part of it. It sucks, but… Welcome to bingo night” |
Backstage founding member Chris Stein said the reason why they were left out is that they were sued by their former mates and he’s written them out because of what he perceives to be a dastardly move. |
“The reason I brought this (the award) was in case I run into any of those f–kers!! [crowd laughs] “They sued us, all three of them, and they wrote themselves out of the band’s history as far as I’m concerned. They should have a little bit of honor. This is supposed to be rock and roll, this is supposed to be friendly. This is like going through the trenches together. We’ve gone through all kinds of s–t together.Plus, our bass player Leigh Foxx, has been working with me and Debbie for close to twenty years. I worked with Nigel Harrison for maybe four-and-a-half.” |
Blondie performed “Heart Of Glass,” “Rapture,” and “Call Me” at the event. The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame will air Tuesday, March 21 at 9:00pm on VH1. |
