FOOS DRUMMER HAWKINS RIDES COATTAIL OF ALANIS
Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins looking to put together a collaborative effort, talks about taking the microphone for the Led Zeppelin tribute with a nod… |
Taylor Hawkins is really enjoying himself taking a break from The Foo Fighters playing with his band Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders. For Hawkins, it allows him to not only play the drums with reckless abandon, but he also writes and sings the material. We sat down with Taylor to discuss how much fun he had recording the new album at Drew Hester’s house and how much song writing momentum they built up. |
We also talked with Hawkins about playing with bassist Chris Chaney, formerly of Janes Addiction fame, whom the two met while playing in Alanis Morrisette’s band many years back. |
“He didn’t have any gear really. Just a $1,500 or $2,000 Pro Tools unit and $500 worth of mics and a drum set. We recorded all the guitars on a $100 Vox amp, but we had a good momentum and vibe going there. And it was fun, we were having fun and you can kind of hear it in the music. We were having fun and not really giving a shit, but at the same time there was a momentum, and i felt that.” |
Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders have announced a new run of tour dates beginning April 12th in Atlanta, Georgia and extending until April 24th in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Look for more tour dates to be announced shortly as the band continues to tour in support of their debut release ‘Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders’ which is currently in stores now. |
“I played with Chris in my earliest days, you know of making money playing music with Alanis. He’s such an awesome bass player and we have so much fun. We have a similar love in music, along the same lines of challending yet pleasing to their ear pop at the same time, you know. We just have a great time hanging together and a great time playing together. He’s a different kind of bass player than I’m use to playing with. All the bass players are great but he’s a different kind and he’s really fun and brings a good energy to the scene.” |
