Rapper Proof, who was a founding member of D12 and a solo artist, was shot and killed at the CCC nightclub on Detroit’s Eight Mile Road early Tuesday, morning, April 11th. The rapper, whose real name is Deshaun Holton, was pronounced dead on arrival at St. John Holy Cross from a gunshot wound to the head. |
A spokesman for D12 said, “Memorial service arrangements are still being made, and his friends and family would appreciate privacy during this difficult time.” |
Details surrounding the shooting were still sketchy but according to witnesses, Proof, 32, may have been involved in an altercation in the club that quickly escalated. Police are still investigating the shooting and the nightclub was allegedly operating illegally after hours. |
After his close friend Eminem became a solo star, Proof became his hype man and was virtually inseparable from the rapper. In addition to a small role in 8 Mile, Proof was also Eminem’s best man at his second wedding to Kim Mathers earlier this year. |
Proof released his debut solo album, Searching For Jerry Garcia, last year. |
