Richard Dreyfuss stars in Poseidon as a doomed guest on a luxury liner who is faced with trying to save his own life when a gigantic wave crashes into the ship. Richard says the film is based on an old Hollywood disaster movie tradition where the audience enjoys getting involved with who survives and who doesn’t. |
Dreyfuss is no stranger to making epic films with enormous sets that are built just to be destroyed. He says that’s the greatest thing about Hollywood and going to the movies. |
“The real interest is one of the oldest traditions in movies. It’s ten little Indians and then there were nine and then there were eight. You want to see who dies and how. You want to be surprised and have fun seeing ‘I think he’ll make it. Oh no whoops, no!’ You have fun. That’s a great old movie tradition and that’s what this is.” |
A good time was had by all except for the fact the actors in Poseidon became waterlogged spending nearly 10 hours a day in 20 gallon tanks for five months of shooting. |
“The greatest thing about Hollywood is when they go balls out Hollywood and they make crazy sets like turning over ships and seventeen floors and dead bodies. They’ve got five or six stages devoted to the show and they’re all in various epic things that we could never see anywhere else. It’s great. It’s what you’re in the movies for. It’s fun. It’s a lot of fun.” |
