AVENGED SEVENFOLD ANNOUNCED AS SURPRISE OZZFEST BAND

(VIDEO) Avenged Sevenfold was announced as the “mystery” band appearing on OzzFest.

With all the speculation about the mystery band on OzzFest, this past Friday, May 19, it was revealed that Avenged Sevenfold will do the honors. The band had known about it for quite some time, but kept quiet about it so they wouldn’t spoil their tour with Coheed And Cambria.

We asked vocalist Matt Shadows about keeping the secret.

“It wasn’t that hard to keep it a secret. We thought it was kind of funny just running around telling people we were doing different tours other than OzzFest. But yeah, we basically kept it a secret because we had this tour to do and it wasn’t fair to Coheed And Cambria and kids that had bought these tickets to announce another tour and then taking away from this tour. So, we just figured the best thing to do… We told OzzFest that if they wanted us to do it we had to be announced at a later date, and then they made kind of a big deal, like, ‘Mystery Band,’ which is kind of funny and crazy.”

With big-wigs like Godsmack and Tool being thrown around, he hopes that people are still excited Avenged Sevenfold on the tour.

“Yeah, I thought it was funny, but then some of the bands they were throwing out there were so big, and I was like, ‘Oh man, kids are going to be Metallica, or it’s going to be Guns N’ Roses or it’s going to be Tool. And I was like, ‘They’re way off.’ Some people thought it was Sepultura or Godsmack. I thought it was funny that they thought it was another band. but, yeah, it’s us.”

Avenged Sevenfold will play alongside a bill that includes Black Label Society, Disturbed, System Of A Down, and Atreyu among others.
