BEN FOLDS GOES OVER THE HEDGE
(VIDEO)Ben Folds has hooked up with Hans Zimmer to contribute songs to the animiated movie Over The Hedge. |
Ben Folds was recruited as the musical director for the film Over The Hedge and he contributed five songs to the collection. The soundtrack arrived in stores on Tuesday, but the movie opened nationally this weekend. |
Ben talked about what was special about music used in film. |
“Well, what we just accomplished was setting the tone for the picture. The picture has its unique tone. And it’s an interesting thing to watch a movie — I’ve never done this before — to watch a movie with no music at all. To the extent that the music takes you to another side of the story or another side of the visual or brings out something about a character that is yet to happen.” |
He also shared what it was like to work under the reputable Hans Zimmer on the soundtrack. |
“The only thing I thought about Hans at first was like, ‘Well this guy could really make life rough on me, and I don’t know him.’ And as soon as I met him I realized… Working with the best, when someone really is the best, they’re relaxed and humble. They’re not trying to prove anything. Working with Hans was like how me and my brother used to sit down and bang out ideas.” |
The gem of the collection is a version of Ben’s “Rockin’ The Suburbs” with special guest vocalist William Shatner. This isn’t the first time the two have worked together. The former Star Trek captain teamed with Folds for an album under the moniker, Fear Of Pop. |
