For a taste of what cars really look like when they’re racing check out The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Lucas Black stars as Sean Boswell whose driving record consists of seven speeding tickets in 3 states. In order to avoid a jail sentence he leaves on a jet plane from Arizona to Tokyo. Lucas talks about trying not to get lost in translation while in Japan. |
Growing up in the small southern town of Speake Alabama Lucas went through a bit of culture shock while on location in the Far East. |
“You know the first couple of times I had to speak Japanese it didn’t have to be perfect. It could be all mangled up because it was the first time being there but I mean it went real well. It wasn’t too hard, just kind of saying it over and over a couple of times. It was fairly easy for me because thank god there wasn’t a whole monologue or a whole paragraph. It was just a couple of lines here and there so I can deal with that.” |
When it comes to drifting, an underground type of racing which combines brutal speed on hairpin turns, Lucas’ favorite car was the Nissan Z which he used for practice rounds on the track. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift opens Friday nationwide.rn |
“You know this is a different experience coming from a small town in Alabama I’d never thought I’d be in Tokyo. It’s a humongous city and lots of people. It’s cool to see at first and then learn about the people and learn about the things there but I got homesick quick.” |
