Ne-Yo recently released the third single and video, “Sexy Love,” from his platinum debut, In My Own Words. While the singer may be a new artists to many, he;s been making a name for himself as a songwriter for many years. Ne-Yo penned Mario’s Number One single, “Let Me Love You.”

Ne-Yo, whose real name is Shaffer Smith, has also penned hits for Mary J. Blige, Musiq, B2K, and Faith Evans. The singer shared what it was like to finally get the recognition he deserves. Ne-Yo said,

“You know what I’ve been writing for a really, really long time. And just for all the hardwork to be coming to fruition now is more than an honor. It’s an honor, a pleasure, and a blessing. I’m more than happy.”

Ne-Yo is up for Teen People’s Teen Choice Award in the R&B artist category. The winner will be announced on August 20th on Fox at 8:00 p.m.
