Hip-hop mogul Master P made millions early on in his career from straight-to-video releases like I’m Bout It, Bout It, I Got The Hook Up, and Foolish. Now the mogul is hoping to take over the straight-to-DVD market with the launch of his new film company, Hollyhood Cinemas. So far Master P’s plan is working as the first release from Hollyhood Cinemas, Repos, is already on back order. The film, which hits video retail outlets on the Fourth of July, stars Master P, Kat Williams, A.J. Johnson, and Michael Blackston.

Master P shared how it felt to move 700,000 copies of his debut film, I’m Bout It, Bout It. He said,

“To be able to break the DVD game and sell 700,000 copies of DVDs on ‘Bout It, Bout It,’ was incredible because I mean I was the first one to put a straight to DVD movie coming from an independent music business. You know you just got to grow and that’s what this is about, building a library, and growing. You know I mean most people want to be big in the theaters. You know I want to take that same drive that I took in my music business to sell 75 million records to take that now in the movie business.”

Master P is hoping to release a hundred DVDs through Hollyhood Cinemas in the next year. The rapper is currently working on several new movies including I Got The Hook Up 2 and Hot Boys 2 and a sketch comedy show titled, If The Shoe Fit.

After being such a hit with the viewers of Dancing With the Stars, P has also decided to develop his own television show, America’s Next Hip Hop Stars.
