AMY SEDARIS SHOWS UNATTRACTIVE SIDE FOR STRANGERS WITH CANDY

Strangers with Candy began as an off-beat series on Comedy Central about the quirky adventures of a 46 year old former junkie named Jerri Blank played by Amy Sedaris. The film is a prequel to the acclaimed series where Blank returns to high school in a bid to start her life over. Here’s Amy Sedaris at the Museum of Radio and Television talking about her character’s unattractiveness and how she went about creating a comedic monster.

Amy talks about why she felt it was necessary to make Jerri as unattractive as possible.

“But she felt she was pretty. I like when someone thinks they’re really attractive but maybe they have some problem areas, you know. If I could change one thing about myself, you know I wanted a different body type so Vicky had some fatty suits made for me. I put that fake nicotine on my teeth, some circles which I have now I didn’t have then and an $1,800 dollar wig.”

Strangers with Candy also stars series creators Stephen Colbert and Paul Dinello opening in theaters today.rn

“It’s just more interesting to me. You see enough pretty people on TV and that’s just not what she was about. But I prefer someone to look a little unattractive I don’t know, maybe it goes far back. The important thing is she thought she was attractive and easy.”
