The fireworks started early for Superman Returns soaring to number one this weekend at the box office totaling over 52 million dollars. Brandon Routh thinks this Superman’s appeal to audiences is they can relate to his human foibles and trying to figure out where love fits into his super hero duties. |
Brandon’s respect for the late Christopher Reeve’s Superman contributed to his commitment to carry on the film’s future success. |
“One thing that people knock Superman for is that he is unrelateable and that he’s just this boy scout and all he does is good and he has no problems. In this movie I don’t like to think that he had problems either but I think he’s just going through some growing pains. He’s got things to learn. He can be the most intelligent person in the world but there’s only a couple of things, there’s some things you need to learn through experience and love is one of those things that you can only experience so he goes through that growing pain. I think we all do so I think to see this guy go through that can maybe help people or I don’t know it would be great for them to see anyway.”rn |
“I certainly listened to everyone and I knew how much respect other people had for the character and for Chris’ performance and I had an amazing amount of respect too because he was my Superman. I was very proud to be able to continue with what he did and the great place he left the character was fantastic for me.”rn |
