LOSTPROPHETS TOPS IN THE U.K.
(VIDEO) Lostprophets have their first Number One album in the U.K., and they’re not even considered the ‘flavor of the month’. |
Lostprophets have captured the Number One album in their native U.K. with Liberation Transmission. The album, spurred on by the song “Rooftops” landed at Number 33 in the U.S., which isn’t horrible considering 2004’s album Start Something also landed at that identical position a week after its release. |
Lostprophets topped the U.K. charts without being a hyped or buzz band and their albums have been debuting higher on the charts as their career has gone on. We asked the band about not being about the hype. |
“You know, we just did it the way you’re supposed to do it. You know we came in and we played shows and we sold our records on the back of who we were — not on the back of being Saturday Night Live or Rolling Stone saying we were cool or that magazine saying we were cool. We’ve never really been in magazines over here (in the U.S.). We’ve never ever been the hype thing over here, and I’m kind of glad of that because it’s such a dangerous thing. You’ve got bands like the Arctic Monkeys, which were an amazing band. They’re really cool, but they came over here on so much hype. The people are kind of weary, and they end up doing nothing over here.” |
Lostprophets’ hard work in the U.K. has paid off, and the band will tour there through July. U.S. dates are still forthcoming. |
