Filmmaker Edward Burns grew up in Woodside, Queens. Like Woody Allen who uses New York as the backdrop for his storytelling, Burns uses the suburbs to stage the action for his movies. Even though he’s moved across the Queensboro bridge to New York City, he still reflects on the world he grew up in and wants to show audiences the real burbs. |

“I grew up in the suburbs and I’ve seen some films that kind of paint a less than flattering picture of life in the burbs. As if in the suburbs the cause are responsible for a lot of that dysfunction. Even though I don’t live in the burbs anymore I still have a love affair with it. So this was part of a reaction to some of those other films but mostly just my kind of looking back on the world I grew up in and kind of and wanting to paint a realistic picture of it.” |
