Phil Lesh, legendary bassist for the Grateful Dead for over 30 years and still going strong with Phil Lesh and Friends, continues to look for musicians who like to step outside of their comfort zones and play something new. Since the death of Jerry Garcia in 1995, Phil Lesh has continued to revamp the line up in his band continually rotating amazing musicians and always keeping things fresh. With a star studded list of musicians like Warren Haynes, Trey Anastasio, Page McConnell, Jimmy Herring, John Molo, Chris Robinson, John Scoefield, Joan Osbourne, Rob Borraco and Ryan Adams, we wondered what goes into the thought process when Phil is deciding on which musicians are going to be a part of his friends. |
Phil Lesh has recently concluded his summer tour with his band and it has been rumored that Phil Lesh has been working in the studio on some sessions with Ryan Adams. Next up for Phil Lesh will be his performance at the Music of Bob Dylan Tribute November 9th at the Lincoln Center in New York. Also scheduled to make appearances at the tribute will be Warren Haynes, Chris and Rich Robinson, Patti Smith, Natalie Merchant, Medeski, Martin and Wood, Cat Power, Rosanne Cash and plenty more. “The breadth of material that’s available on the internet, of course is virtually infinite. What it’s done, I think is it’s stimulated peoples curiousity in the unknown. What it is they don’t already know, that’s kind of the thing that’s in the air. I mean, that’s what I’m looking for in musicians is musicians who want to step outside of where they are and what they know and play something that’s completely new.” |
