FARRELL AND FOXX DO MANN’S WORK

Colin Farrell is Detective James Sonny Crockett and Jamie Foxx is Detective Ricardo Tubbs, undercover cops in the big screen version of the popular 1980s television series Miami Vice. Right from the start these two stars realized that doing a Michael Mann film meant getting down to business and fulfilling the director’s vision. |
Colin says doing a Michael Mann film includes doing your own stunts and learning everything a real detective needs to know to do his job. |
“This was a different Michael just to be honest. It was a lot more intense. And a lot of times we were wondering where exactly he was going with it but it’s his film, it’s his baby so you had to give him room and let him work and so just as long as I was there and we were there prepared to do whatever it is he wanted us to do. That’s all that really mattered.” |
Colin and Jamie had three months of training to master all the skills so that it became second nature to them looking like cops on the job for 15 years. Miami Vice opens Friday in theaters nationwide.rnrn |
“Michael pays so much attention to detail. He as little as possible wants to shoot stunt doubles and he’s somebody that wants anything that your character is doing on the screen or doing in the story, he wants you to be able to do in real life. He wants you to have a firm grasp whether it’s the boats or the car or shooting guns and all those kinds of stuff. So we had a lot of physical training plus spent a lot of time with undercover cops which were very helpful to us recounting stories that they’ve been in and situations that they’ve been involved in and cases they worked on. The effect it had on their personal lives and so forth. We did a good bit of research. Michael would have reams and reams of literature and books and all sorts of stuff.” |
