Muse’s new album Black Holes And Revelations is set to debut at Number 7 on the Billboard 200 album chart, which is spurred on by their new single “Knights Of Cydonia.” The song is a little more progressive for the band on an album that runs the gamut of musical styles. |
At an in-store in Los Angeles last week, we asked Matthew Bellamy and Dominick Howard about the inspiration behind “Knights Of Cydonia.” |
[Bellamy] “Yeah, ‘Knights Of Cydonia’ that song was inspired by South Italian, kind of, folk music. We put that song together when we were in… We recorded in, we started recording this album in South France in a very secluded environment and we wanted to capture that south European sound, but I think we managed to get it down quite well with this song — apart from a prog rock riff at the end.” [Howard] “We also wanted to try and make it very filmy and very visual so when you listen to it it paints the same picture for everyone who hears it…” [Bellamy]”…plus sound effects.” |
Muse’s Black Holes and Revelations held on to the Number One spot on the Top albums in the U.K. The band is in the United States on tour through August 6. The band has festival appearances in Japan, Austria, Switzerland and the U.K. |
