THE STREETS NOT SO CROWDED IN THE UNITED STATES
(VIDEO) The Streets is essentially Mike Skinner, and he is still operates in obscurity in the U.S…. |
The Streets also known as Mike Skinner, has sold over three million albums, however he remains second to Robbie Williams as the biggest U.K. star not to have a breakthrough in the United States. In the U.S. the band has a small but dedicated fan base, and Skinner actually recorded his latest album The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living in relative obscurity in New York City. |
We caught up with The Streets at the Bonnaroo Festival last month, and we asked him about writing such songs as “When You Wasn’t Famous,” in the U.S., away from the crush of millions of U.K. fans. |
“I wrote most of it in New York. At the time when I was kind of getting around to finishing off the album, they were running a big campaign in the U.K. with Reebok, so my picture was on the side of the bus everywhere we went. So, it was a pretty hectic time to be in the U.K. So I decided to leave the U.K. and go to New York, so I finished my album off there in relative peace.” |
We also asked him about his popularity in the U.K. and his ability to escape. |
“It’s pretty easy to deal with as long as you can get away from it now and again. But it’s cool, man. It allows me to get things done and work with the people I want to work with — in the U.K. at least.” |
The Streets are keeping a relatively low profile after touring the U.S. They have a few festival appearances lined up this summer including Reading and Leeds. |
