NO DOUBT, IT’S ELAN
Up and coming artist Elan was taken under the wing of No Doubt’s Tony Kanal, who called on Gwen Stefani to pitch in on the artist’s new album as well. Keywor… |
Elan, former lead singer of the legendary Wailers, might have taken over a decade to release his debut album ‘Together as One,’ but the wait was more than worth it. On ‘Together as One’ Elan demonstrates his authentic vocal style and talented song writing ability and the LA native’s career as a solo artist is ready to explode. The album was produced by Elan’s long time friend Tony Kanal of No Doubt. The two met at a Wailers show years ago and always talked about working together. We talked with Elan about using Kanal as the producer and the fact the two share many common musical tastes together. |
That’s just what Elan and Tony did, make music that they love. And since they were recording in Tony’s Studio down the street from Gwen Stefani it was only a matter of time before she checked in on the recording and offered to lend her talents on a new duet with Elan titled ‘All Nighter.’ which Elan compares to the classic pop track, “Summer Lovin” from Grease. |
W”We both loved Reggae, Dance Hall, Dub, New Wave and Punk and you know all the same sytles of genres of music. So we always said ‘Hey we should work together and we should definitely do something.’ But with him being busy with No Doubt and me being busy on the road with The Wailers over the years we kept running into each other and say ‘Hey we’re going to work together, let’s do this!’ And finally we got it done and we actually did it. At first we were not even thinking about work we were just like ‘Lets go into the studio and have fun and make music that we really love.'” |
Elan’s latest video for his first single off of ‘Together as One’ is “Girl” and it features a guest appearence from Assassin. The video has already been added to the playlist on MTVU’s “The Freshman.” Elan will next kick off his North American Tour August 24th in Florida. The tour will also include Buju Banton, Capleton, Gregory Isaacs, Cocoa Assassin & Live Wyya and extend until September 10th in Maryland. |
“At first I did the whole song and then me and Tony were like ‘It’s missing something.’ Then Gwen lived like three or four blocks away from Tony’s house and she used to come over and hear us in the studio and listen to songs and give here opinion and she’s like ‘I want to sing on that song.’ So we were like ‘Yeah definitely.’ And then the whole idea of a ‘Grease Summer Lovin’ back and forth song came and it hadn’t been done in so long.” |
