LIVING THINGS SOCIALLY AND POLITICALLY CONSCIOUS DUE TO THEIR MOTHER
Living Things, who are fastly becoming known for stirring things up where ever they go, write songs in a very socially and politically conscious frame of mind and it’s no coincidence that Lillian, Eve and Bosh Berlin’s mother raised them in that environment. We caught up with Eve and Bosh to discuss their mothers influence on not only their lives but their song writing as well. While the band continues to turn heads with their live performances at career breaking festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza, their debut release on Jive Records, ‘Ahead of the Lions’ demonstrates the bands naturally ability to write socailly conscious songs. Living Things, which consists of three brothers, Eve, Lillian and Bosh are also known to bring these socially aware songs to the stage and the band isn’t shy when it comes to voicing their opinions on a society, an adminstration and a world in turmoil. But does that get the band in trouble sometimes? |
The band does find their out spoken views can get them in trouble like when Lillian was pistol whipped after a show in Texas voicing his anti Bush sentiments. Or perhaps the much publicized fight with Alterbridge, when the Living Things were performing on the same bill in Europe and it quickly turned heated backstage after the show and ultimately a brawl ensued. So defending their views obviously isn’t a problem for the band, but we wondered if the band finds itself in a lot of brotherly infighting while on tour or in the studio. |
“Yeah our mother really enlightened us and opened up the whole world of politics and social politics to us from a very young age. Ever since as far as I can remember. She’s always been very out spoken and always voicing her opinion and that definitely influenced us to voice our opinion.” |
Living Things are currently in the studio writing the follow up to their immensely successful debut album. As of press time the bands second album is tentatively titled ‘Missouri Aches’ and the band has added a keyboardist and brought in some horn players from The Ohio Players and The Bay City Rollers. Look for the album, which is being recorded at the Ozarks in Missouri to be released in 2007. |
“You got to do what’s right and if people are too afraid to hear what we have to say from the stage then they need to go home and start reading.” |
“Of course, I think all famliy members fight and any family that has a family business or works together, they hate each other and rip each others throats out, but in the endeverybody goes home and eats moms barbque. Exactly.” |
