Now you can learn the secrets of the upside down world of Poseidon currently out on DVD. To create the illusion of a gigantic luxury cruise liner that is turned over by a rogue wave with people and pianos hanging from the ceiling, two different models were created by the art department, one turned up and one turned down and then movie magic was added in. |
Eighty thousand dollars was spent on crystal for the chandeliers, table settings and break-aways in the ballroom scene that was all destroyed by thousands of gallons of water gushing onto the set. |
Jacinda Barret: “The ship’s upside down and obviously it’s not meant to float upside down. And we have to get out of steel. We have to go the wrong way up to get out of the ship. So we’re going through air conditioning ducts, climbing across broken glass elevators, going inside elevator shafts. There’s fires and dead bodies and the boat is filling with water and it’s just craziness on every level.” |
Interesting fact, the commissary on Warner Brothers lot in Los Angeles doubled for the ship’s galley. Other extras on the DVD include a behind-the-scenes commentary from a production assistant and a History Channel documentary on the phenomenon of rogue waves. |
Emmy Rossum: “And you’re twenty feet under water swimming through a corridor free diving or you’re swimming to a respirator and you’re in scuba training. Or you’re sling shooting across this three story drop with no safety mats because they might give you a false sense of security. It took a lot of courage on all of our parts and it was a lot harder than we all thought it was gonna be but it was a lot of fun too.” |
