RAZORLIGHT MAKES THE PERFECT RECORD?
The Fray are among a cast of musicians set to record a tribute to The Beatles Sgt Peppers album. |
Razorlight’s self-titled sophomore effort was released last month, and the band is now in the process of promoting it. The follow-up to Up All Night, was a labor of love for the band, and the first taste from the album is “In The Morning.” |
Razorlight’s Johnny Borrell talked about believing in the new album. |
“The only way we can make music is to make music that really excites us. I think the very nature of that means that you can’t keep making the same music over and over again. I never wanted to be in a band where the second album is the same as the first, just with a different distortion pedal. You’re always challenging yourself, and you’re always reaching for something. At the end of the day all we care about is writing great songs, so…” |
Borrell also compared Razorlight to their debut album Up All Night. |
“Oh, certainly. Up All Night really felt to me like a debut record with a lot of energy, but what I really wanted to do with this record is… I felt like if I was going to have three-and-a-half minutes to sing a song I wanted to make sure that I didn’t waste a single word. If I was going to have half-an-hour to make an album I wanted every beat to count. In that sense I think it’s just a lot better attitude. I didn’t want anything self-indulgent — any waste of time and space on the album. I wanted every song to be an immediate piece of art.” |
Razorlight is already on to their next single in the U.K., a tune titled “America.” The band’s album went Number One in the U.K. shortly after its release, and they recently toured the U.S. with another Number One U.K. band, Muse. |
The band will kick off a brief U.S. tour August 30 to wrap September 17 in Pennsylvania, and then it’s back home to the U.K. for more dates. |
