PAPOOSE SIGNS 1.5 MILLION DEAL
Brooklyn-based underground rapper Papoose has finally signed with a major label after making a name for himself on the mixtape circuit for over two years. According to the rapper’s managament, he recently signed a $1.5 million deal with Jive Records. Jive’s urban roster already includes: The Clipse, Outkast, UGK, Too-Short, R. Kelly, Kelis, and the Youngbloodz. |
The rapper explained why he took his time before signing a deal. He said, |
“And I always got offered deals but they it wasn’t proper. Another thing don’t jump the gun. I got offered various record deals by some of your favorite labels but they wasn’t up to what I think would have had me financially secure for the future, you know what I’m sayin’? I’m a father also so you know I got to look for longevity.” |
Papoose began to make a name for himself in 2004 when his song, “Alphabetical Slaughter,” was featured on Kay Slay’s DJ Kay Slay’s Streetsweeper, Vol. 2: The Pain From The Game. |
In 2005, the rapper won the Justo Mixtape Award for ‘Best Underground Rapper,’ and he was featured on the remix to Busta Rhymes’ “Touch It.” |
Lately he hasn’t slowed down as he’s featured on R&B singer Joe’s latest single, “Where You At?” as well as on several songs on DJ Kay Slay and Greg Street’s new album, The Champions – The North Meets The South. Papoose is currently working on his debut album, Nacirema Dream, which is slated to be released early next year. |
