DIANE LANE LOVES TO AGE IN MOVIES
(VIDEO) Playing the older woman was a luxury for Hollywoodland star Diane Lane. |
Diane Lane plays Toni Mannix in Hollywoodland, the wife of MGM studio head Eddie Mannix who carried on a clandestine yet robust affair with TV Superman George Reeves in the 1950s. Mannix was the older woman to Reeves sometimes calling the character her boy. Diane says she doesn’t mind looking older on screen. |
Some things haven’t changed when it comes to young Hollywood, but what was different in those days was movie stars couldn’t move freely between the big and the little screen like they can today. Diane talks about Reeves downfall when he tried to make the transition from Hollywood to television. |
“I really had a great time playing an older woman because it’s liberating. I just love it, I do. I don’t have to sit around and worry about, ‘do I look as young as possible,’ all the time which is such a bore and so limiting. Yeah it’s nice to be well lit but at the same time Toni would’ve demanded it so that’s alright. She was a great dame.” |
Next Diane stars in the thriller Killshot married to Thomas Jane who are hunted down by Mickey Rourke’s hit man after they become witnesses to a crime. |
“He couldn’t get work for a moment in time and television came along and this was an embarrassment to him. He didn’t want this. They didn’t take him seriously and he wanted to be taken seriously and he had so much more to offer. Every actor knows this experience, this sensation, this feeling and he just had it on the largest scale that will ever happen to anyone. |
