SHERRYBABY LIFTS SCENES FROM REAL LIFE
(VIDEO) Sherrybaby writer Laurie Collyer took scenes from real life rehab and probation meetings for the film. |
Writer director Laurie Collyer did her homework to write the screenplay for her feature debut Sherrybaby about a female ex-con and heroin addict by visiting several rehab meetings, camera in hand to get an idea of what really goes on there. |
One particular scene made it into the film which was taken directly from a conversation she had with a female ex-con on probation having a meeting with her employment counselor. |
“There was a halfway house network in Trenton that I found and they were one of these private non-profit organizations. Their meetings were not AA meetings or NA meetings but they use the 12 steps, the same premise. If it had been regular AA I wouldn’t have been in there with a camera.” |
Laurie is currently writing AKA America, a punk rock love story set in San Francisco in the 1980s. rn |
“There’s apparently a job agency in New York that she described as the only way you’ll get a good job there is if you blow the job counselor. I thought it was just a euphemism like a figure of speech but she literally meant that was the only way to get a good job and that the girls would participate.” |
