OK GO TREADMILL VIDEO, NO EDITS, REAL LIP SYNC
(VIDEO) OK GO’s video for “Here It Goes Again” is a hit, and the band says what you see is what you get. |
OK Go have the hottest video of the season with their treadmill dance clip for “Here It Goes Again.” Both fans and peers have been raving about the video and many are wondering who the editor is and who did their effects. |
Kulash told us that the simple fact is the clip for the song is one complete take with no edits, cgi, or special effects. He talked about the work involved in executing the mindblowing clip. |
“Just one straight take. I mean we had to do it seventeen times, but when we finally got one, we kept it. You know what I mean? It’s kind of like scuba diving. It’s this physical experience that nothing replicates. Once you get used to moving around on those treadmills it’s like something you will never, ever experience anywhere else. The earth will never start doing that to you. Once you get comfortable with it, it’s like playing around on a big electronic jungle gym. It was a lot of exercize. None of us are work out freaks so none of us were prepared to be doing hours and hours a day on a treadmill. So we were wasted, tired, and sore and scraped up and bruised from falling, but it was a ton of fun. We love playing shows but going on tour is 23 hours a day of monotony and one hour a day of a rock show. So you take a break from tour for eight days and get to play around on this giant electronic jungle gym for a week. It was awesome. It |
OK Go threw some mis-direction as offbeat bassist Tim Norwind lip synced Kulash’s parts in the video. Kulash talked about Norwind’s newfound fame. |
“It’s like we have a lot of old ladies who really like us, and now we really, REALLY do. After we put out that video — I think that’s first viral video that’s ever hit the sewing circle crowd — Tim gets stopped on the street, ‘You’re that guy from the dancing thing. I love your videos, you’re great.’ It’s so funny and everybody wants to know why we did that, and I honestly…my best answer is that people have to think about me and think about him, and realize that you’d just much rather see him doing it. It’s kind of just like a gut instinct thing. I think that if I were lip synching to all of those things I think it would become too close to a real boy band I think. Some kind of self-removal would be lost. It’s nice to see Tim singing those words.” |
OK Go proved the clip wasn’t a fluke as they performed their treadmill routine of “Here It Goes Again” to a T at the MTV Video Music Awards. The clip is still among iTunes top downloads and is also popular on YouTube and Google Video. The band will head to the U.K. for a series of in-stores later this month to support their latest album, Oh No. |
