STOP MOTION SAVES RENAISSANCE BLOCKBUSTER BUCKS
(VIDEO) Renaissance director Christian Volckman saved blockbuster dollars to make his animated film with stop motion technology. |
Director Christian Volckman whose first foray into animation was as director, writer, actor and producer of the French short Maaz makes his sophomore effort with Renaissance, a futuristic animated film for adults. Christian discusses the monetary advantages of using motion capture technology to flesh out the characters. |
Stop motion also gave Christian the opportunity to use his imagination to its limits in Renaissance which opens today in theaters. |
“The idea behind Renaissance is to try to make an ambitious film which is very close to live action but uses a different technology. For example in Europe we don’t have a lot of money and to make a film like Renaissance in live action would’ve been practically impossible because you have car chase going throughout Paris. You have a lot of sets, a lot of characters and motion capture enables you to do all those things that in live action would be completely crazy and you would have to do a blockbuster and with animation it’s a little different.” |
