LEONARDO DICAPRIO DEALS WITH NICHOLSON ANTICS IN THE DEPARTED

(VIDEO) Leonardo DiCaprio never knew what to expect from unpredictable actor Jack Nicholson in The Departed.

Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Billy Costigan a young rookie cop who grew up on the mean streets of South Boston in The Departed. He’s assigned undercover to infiltrate the Irish mob run by Jack Nicholson’s Frank Costello.

opposite Jack proved to be a challenge for DiCaprio who never knew what the joker might do to change up the scene.

“He gets way deep in a situation that is so dangerous and so complicated and so deceitful in so many different ways and everything sort of caves in around him. But at the heart of it I think he’s definitely a character that’s trying to redeem himself and do good and do something different than his family did and not just be a product of his environment.”

During one such scene at the bar where Costello is questioning whether Costigan is a rat, Jack caught Leo completely off guard surprising him with an arsenal under the table including a fire extinguisher, a gun, some matches and a bottle of whiskey. What he would do with it was anybody’s guess. The Departed opens Friday.rn

“He’s this force of nature that just comes on the set and you have to sort of roll with the punches. And he’s very unpredictable when he’s on camera. When that camera starts rolling you know anything can happen. It’s really exciting as a young actor to be able to play against that. There were moments in this film where I didn’t know what was gonna happen next. I didn’t know what he had under the table. I didn’t know what he was gonna bring out. I didn’t know what side of Costello he was gonna be playing on any particular day.”
