Just after the one year anniversary of Hurrican Katrina and New Orleans and the Gulf Coast States are still in the rebuilding process and still slowly recovering. |
We caught up with George Thorogood, who is currently touring in support of his latest release, ‘The Hard Stuff’ to talk about his cover version of Fats Domino’s ‘Hello Josephine’ which is his tribute to the victims of hurricane Katrina. |
“We’ve been monkeying around with ‘Hello Josephine’ for years and we got to the studio and we were out of material, kind of at the end of the cycle for us. We just said why don’t we put something on the album and dedicate it to the city for what they went through and they didn’t get much support from the government, so I said it’s up to the people. I can’t donate ten million dollars, I don’t have that kind of money. The least I can do is play a song and what better song than a Fats Domino song and we try to make it sound New Orleans like.” |
It is also well known that Fats Domino, who lived in the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans and decided to stay with his ailing wife while Hurricane Katrina was approaching the city, was originally thought to be dead but luckily was rescued by a National Guard Helicopter to safety. George Thorogood went on to discuss his thoughts on Fats Domino being a national treasure and why he chose ‘Hello Josephine’ to add to his latest album. |
“Have you ever heard more fun and delightful music that makes you happy more than Fats Domino? That’s America at it’s best. This is an assest, an assest to our culture. And this is why we put Fats Domino on the thing. Hello Josephine, you know. Everybody likes that, even if you sing it badly, who cares?” |
George Thorogood has recently finished up his first lef of touring in support of ‘The Hard Stuff’ but don’t expect Throgood and The Deleware Destroyers to take much of a break from the road, as year after year the band continues their grueling tour schedule for their fans. |
