VH-1 taped its 3rd annual Hip Hop Honors show on Saturday, October 7th, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. The show’s honorees included: MC Lyte, Rakim, Afrika Bambaataa, Eazy E, Ice Cube, Wu-Tang Clan, the Beastie Boys and Russell Simmons. Talib Kweli, the Roots, Styles P, Q-Tip, Erykah Badu, Xzibit, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Fat Joe, Forrest Whittaker, OutKast, Common, Diddy, Lil Eazy E, Fabolous, Remy Ma, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Yo-Yo, Lil Kim, Da Brat, Lil Jon, Lil Eazy E, Young Jeezy, Kid Capri, Tracy Morgan, and WC were some of the artists who were on hand to honor this year’s honorees. |
After a few false starts, the evening’s festivities began to move along smoothly with the exception of a few no-shows. Ghostface Killah was noticeably absent when the Wu-Tang Clan was honored and Jadakiss who was suppose to participate in a tribute was a no-show due to an arrest. The evening’s highlights include Erykah Badu, George Clinton, and Bootsy Collins paying homage to Afrika Bambaataa and Rakim performing an exclusive new song that sounded like one of his vintage classics. |
“Well basically it’s about damn time, you know what I’m sayin’? It’s a beautiful thing. Finally it happened, regardless of how long it took, you know what I’m sayin’? We glad. We’re honored to be here and be able to represent for him, knowing that he put us in the game, you know what I’m sayin’?” |
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s Wish Bone shared his thoughts on Eazy E finally getting his props. He said, |
“Maybe it’s the fact that we’re a nine man group and we’ve been together 13 years. All the other groups didn’t really make it, you know what I mean, and we’re still here. So that’s well deserved.You know what I mean? God bless Dirty, you know what I mean? If Dirty was still alive, he’ll still be here right beside us, you know what I mean?” |
The Wu-Tang Clan’s U-God shared his thoughts on what makes the Wu-Tang Clan so special. He said, |
