Actually the 1982 Oscar for Best Picture went to Chariots of Fire. |
“When I won the Academy Award I just thought if I win the best director then of course I’ll win the best picture and so I won’t bore everybody silly as I’m prone to do. I’ll thank these people when I win the best director when I have to get up again I’ll thank these other people. And of course I didn’t get up again. But I did get to say that I thought it was really quite something that this company had invested this money in this subject and that was a great tribute to what the country stood for in its capitalism and that it was a great sign of progress and a great sign of hope.” |
