CHICAGO CELEBRATES 10 YEARS ON BROADWAY
(VIDEO) Stars from the longest running Broadway musical revival Chicago celebrated 10th anniversary. |
The cast of Chicago both old and new gave ‘em the ole razzle dazzle at New York’s Ambassador Theater to celebrate their 10th anniversary on the Broadway stage. Stars from the original production to the currently running show came to party to the music of John Kander and Fred Ebb and watch the stylish and sexy choreography of Bob Fosse. Rita Wilson who played Roxie Hart this summer talks about why the show still has legs. |
Dukes of Hazzard star Tom Wopat is no stranger to Broadway most recently starring opposite Bernadette Peters in Annie Get Your Gun. He had is own way of giving the role of Irish lawyer Billy Flynn his own razzle dazzle. |
“It’s such a good show. It’s just beautifully written, great songs, great book, great choreography, it’s sexy and there’s so many different roles for women for one thing so that’s fantastic. And for men as well but I think it allows actors to come in and imprint their own personalities or their own juju on it and make it their own. My Roxie was a little promiscuous than others maybe perhaps we should say that.” |
Marilu Henner best known for her role in television’s Taxi played Roxie opposite James Naughton as Billy Flynn in the revival’s early run back in 1996. A Broadway baby she was in the original production of Grease and also shared the stage with Tom Wopat and can attest to his playfulness with the cast. |
“I’d do a lot of stuff under my breath to the girls when I’m working with them. Just making fun what they’re doing. Things like that, just having a good time. Once you start doing a show two or three, four hundred times you know you find ways to entertain yourself without compromising the character hopefully.” |
Amidst all the reunions, the longest running musical revival’s 10th anniversary performance raised 1.1 million dollars to benefit Safe Horizon. |
“Tom Wopat’s a dirty old man. Let me tell you about Tom Wopat. I did Annie Get Your Gun with Tom Wopat. I also did a Cybill episode with Tom Wopat before Annie Get Your Gun with Tom Wopat so I spent time on the road with Tom Wopat. Some other time, but he’s a great kisser, I will say that. People always say, ‘is Burt Reynolds a great kisser? But Tom is the best. This is my future husband, we’re getting married and he’s the best kisser of all.” |
