ARMY OF ANYONE PUTTING ALL THEIR ENERGY INTO FORGING AHEAD
Army of Anyone, rock’s latest supergroup consisting of members from Stone Temple Pilots and Filter are all set to finally hit the road in support of the self titled debut release and the bands legions of fans couldn’t be more excited to finally have a chance to see them perform live. |
Army of Anyone, which consists of Robert and Dean DeLeo from Stone Temple Pilots and lead vocalist Richard Patrick from Filter along with drummer Ray Luzier, actually never intended to form a band, it was just that with Patrick being sober for four years Robert DeLeo saw something intriguing and he knew the songwriting chemistry couldn’t be ignored. |
“You know at the time we didn’t have any intentions of forming a band we just got together and actually had a dinner and seeing what kind of health that Richard was in, you know he’s on his fourth year of sobriety now, and i took a lot of interest in being in a band with him and that’s kind of where it started from.” |
It was believed that the release of Army of Anyones debut pushed back all production on Filters new record they were working on, perhaps causing some animosity. So how long has the band been writing and recording songs together? |
“Well this record actually took us about six weeks to record. We wrote it over the course of a year just kind of piecing it together at my home studio. I had a great time doing that. Then we got together with Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd) and started work on preproduction and the first song we wrote was ‘Getting to know You.’ That was a good thing we had a lot of fun at Richard’s House putting all of our energy into forging ahead.” |
We also wanted to know if Robert DeLeo, who was responsible for not only the bass playing but also being a major songwriting contributor to Stone Temple Pilots, could compare songwriting for his former vocalist Scott Weiland, now the leadsinger of Velver Revolver, to Richard Patrick. |
“The great thing was it’s going from a baritone to a tenor in musical terms and that way I really got to move my music in a whole different avenue and that was really appealing to me. I certainly didn’t want to come into the mix with having something that would’ve been written for Scott or been left over from STP. You know I really came at this with a brand new feel for where Richard was at and that’s what was really fresh and exciting to me.” |
The band also mentioned they have an entire album of songs already written for the planned follow up to their debut album. Army of Anyone’s tour will kick off November 18th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and extend until December 19th in Cleveland Ohio. After the holidays look for the band to announce a new run of tour dates through North America. |
