MARK RUFFALO HONORS REAL ZODIAC COP
Actor Mark Ruffalo had the luxury of meeting the Zodiac killer investigating officer Dave Toschi he portrays in the film and got so entrenched into the psyche and source material of the case that he began to play detective himself. |
In getting to know Toschi, Mark wanted to honor his dedication in trying to solve the crime. |
“The guy had given so much of his life to this case and so much of his career to this case that I really wanted to get it as right as possible, where he was emotionally and how it was affecting him. So I just kind of insisted that I be able to spend some time with him.” |
Mark says even when Toschi was accused of being the Zodiac killer at one point he still behaved with dignity. |
“He was being groomed for Chief of Police. He caused a lot of acrimony with some of the brass because of his style, his dress, the media loving him so much, that when that happened they wiped him out. And they basically sent him to pawn shop detail which was an incredibly humiliating thing to do to a man like Dave Toschi. And with the class and dignity that he had, he took it gracefully and finished out the rest of his career there.” |
Dave Toschi, now a private detective for a security firm was a model cop for movie characters namely Steve McQueen in Bullit, and Clint Eastwood’s Dirty Harry. |
